• How to Dog-Proof Your Yard Using a Fence

There are several reasons why a homeowner may decide to install a fence on his or her property. One of the more common reasons is to make the yard a safe place where pets can play without their owner having to worry that they will escape or otherwise be in harm’s way. For tips on designing a fence that complements your backyard dog-proofing strategy, continue reading below.

    Select a Sturdy Material
A fence designed with a dog in mind should be made of a durable material that the dog will not be able to tear down and break through. Aluminum and hardwoods such as cedar are ideal, as long as they are rooted strongly into the ground.

    Choose an Appropriate Height
When choosing a fence height, consider your dog’s jumping abilities and those of any predators that live in your area. Build your fence high enough so that your dog is unlikely to escape or be attacked from the outside.

    Line Fence with Shrubs
Add an additional measure of protection against escape by lining your fence with dense shrubs that will make digging under or jumping over your fence all that much difficult for your dog or an outside attacker. If digging is a major concern for you, an L-Footer fence is something else you may wish to consider.

    Hire a Qualified Fence Specialist
A fencing contractor with experience installing dog-proof fences will root posts deep into the ground and attach panels securely to give your fence the extra fortification you are looking for. Since the installation of a fence is almost as important as the materials, hiring a highly regarded professional to do the job for you is essential.

  • How a New Fence Can Add to Your Home’s Value

    Privacy fence

Adding a fence to your home is a great way to improve its appearance and enhance your privacy. With a new fence you will not only be able to enjoy your outdoor space more, but you will also be able to increase your home’s resale value. A well-built fence made from a classic material such as wood, a modern and durable material such as aluminum, or maintenance-free vinyl will give potential homebuyers a great first impression of your home, which is a large part of how resale value is determined and negotiated. For many potential homebuyers, a fence that obscures views into the yard is a great asset that is worth paying more for. Homebuyers with pets or young children will also be glad to know that you have a fence that keeps everyone safe.

  • Preparing Your Wrought Iron Fence for Winter

Unlike aluminum fences , wrought iron fences are extremely expensive to replace if they have rusted. If you have a wrought iron fence, protect it and you can save yourself a significant amount of money. Read this article for more information on how to prepare your wrought iron fence for the cold, wet winter weather in Chicago.

You should clean your wrought iron fence once a week ideally, or once a month at the very least. To prepare your wrought iron fence for winter, you’ll need to clean it just like you normally do, using soapy water and a rag or sponge. Dry the wrought iron with a towel afterward.

    Brushing Existing Rust
Use a wire brush to brush the wrought iron fence. In addition to cleaning any remaining dirt, this also removes rust spots. If you want to speed up the process, use a wire-wheel attachment on your electric drill.

    Sand and Prime
Before painting you need to sand the wrought iron fence with medium-grit sandpaper. This removes peeling paint and makes the surface rough for the primer. Wipe the wrought iron surface with a rag to remove paint chips, cover the surrounding area with a protective cloth, and then apply a rust-inhibitive primer.

    Metal Paint
After letting the primer cure per the manufacturer’s directions, apply a rust-resistant metal paint. You can buy the paint in liquid or aerosol form. Let the paint dry for at least two hours before touching the fence.

If you are tired of putting up with the maintenance required by your wrought iron fence, go with maintenance-free aluminum fencing. Not only is aluminum attractive, but it is also a better value than wrought iron. Visit Paramount Fence of Chicago online to check out the long-lasting, durable aluminum fencing we offer. • Keeping Your Pool Safe with Proper Fencing

Sadly, many children have drowned in Chicago-area pools that were improperly or inadequately fenced. To learn more about the importance of keeping your pool safe with the right fencing, watch this video clip.

Laws differ depending on where your pool is located, but most pool fencing needs to be at least five feet high, with vertical pickets that are about four inches apart. Walk around the pool fence and make sure that there are no climbing obstacles within four feet of the fence. If there is space at the bottom, it should not be more than about two inches high. Furthermore, the fence should have a gate that latches and self closes. Watch this video clip for more tips on planning proper fencing for your Chicago pool.

Paramount Fence of Chicago offers high-quality aluminum fences, wood fences, and vinyl fences for a variety of uses. If you just installed a pool, call us at (630) 406-8410 or visit our website to find out how we can keep your family safe with proper fencing.

If you don’t want to put up with the maintenance that comes with a wood fence, opt instead for a vinyl fence, which is virtually maintenance-free. For a unique look, add roses, clematis, or hanging potted plants to the pickets.

    Aluminum or Vinyl Privacy Fence
If privacy is what your outdoor space needs to be complete, there are dozens of options for you. Privacy fences made from closely stacked pieces of aluminum, vinyl, and wood will add charm to your outdoor space while enhancing your privacy. Dress up your privacy fence by creating a niche for a window box planter, adding decorations such as seasonal garden art, or planting climbing roses.

    Rustic Charm
If you want to create an old-world character to your outdoor space, wood is a great material. Add a wood fence and secure it with pillars made of brick or stone for an interesting mix of textures. Top the pillars with flowerpots made of clay for an elegant look.
