The Importance of Proper Fence Installation

    Last updated 6 months ago

It can be tempting to mix concrete for your fence posts in the holes themselves, pouring dry ready-mix and then adding water with a hose. However, this often results in an uneven set with poor long-term strength. It’s best to mix the concrete in a wheelbarrow or bucket beforehand and thoroughly mix to fully distribute water.

This video has some important tips regarding mixing and setting concrete, including what to do with non-solid posts like chain link or vinyl fencing. It’s vital that the posts be set in cement and not soil. Even sand or gravel still promotes movement and rot in wooden posts as moisture is absorbed.

How to Hang Holiday Lighting on Your Wood Fence

    Last updated 6 months ago

Decorating the exterior of your home is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. While most homeowners go straight for the roof, your wood fence is a great place to hang beautiful and festive holiday lighting. However, there are a few things that you will need to keep in mind before you start to hang holiday lighting on your wood fence.

Using Nails and Staples to Hang Lights – You can install all-season lights using permanent clips affixed to your fence. If you are going to use fasteners that penetrate through your fence, consider the type of wood your fence is made of. Older fences can crack or break when staples or nails are used. Rot-resistant woods like Western Red cedar are more resistant and better suited for support nails.

Alternative Hanging Methods and Color Coordination – While nails and staples are a popular way of securing lights to wood fences, you may want to consider using an alternative method like outdoor twist ties. If your wooden fence is painted, choose ties that blend well with the color. Also, many holiday lights come on green, white, or black strings, so try to find a strand that works well with the color of your fence.

Testing Your Lights – It’s very important to test holiday lights before hanging them on your wood fence. Old lights can be a fire hazard. If any of the bulbs are not lit, or if the strand flickers and shorts out, buy a new strand of holiday lights for your fence. Always choose lights that are appropriate for use outdoors.

It's Never Too Cold For A Fence Installation!

    Last updated 6 months ago

What things come to mind when you hear winter is approaching?  Snow, ice, blizzards, shoveling, hot cocoa, holiday cheer, bargain shopping, fence installation??  You’re thinking, “Fence installation, in the winter?”  That’s right; Paramount Fence, Inc. installs fences all year round!

Now, you may be asking yourself, “But, how can you install a fence in the winter with snow on the frozen ground?”  One of the great things about snow is that it acts as an insulator for the ground.  So, it is actually better for our crews when installing to have snow on the ground.  Here in the Chicagoland area, the ground does freeze in the winter.  What does this mean for fence installation?  The fence holes are dug at least 36” deep, well below the frost line, so the frozen ground is not an issue for winter fence installation.

At Paramount Fence Inc., we guarantee our workmanship for 5 years.  If you have an issue with a post heaving, we will come out to inspect the issue and re-set the post at no cost to you.

Paramount Fence Inc. is now offering our Thanksgiving Special, call the office today to set up your FREE in home estimate!!  Don’t delay, get your fence today!!
